Musicians Surround

I realized something in the music world. If you want to improve a lot as a musician and get a lot of motivation to play, here is the most important advice ever: ALWAYS BE SURROUNDED BY CRAZY MUSICIANS.

Being always in contact with musicians is good for your artistic soul and for you personal growth as a musician. Like that, you can learn from them, talk with them on some tips, how to practice, plan battles with them, jam with them, improvise with them, learn new musical styles, etc.

Musicians can introduce you to others musicians. That’s how you build a name of yourself. You build your reputation. That’s how you get cool contracts. “Hey I need to go in studio next week, do you know a pretty decent bass player who can do the tracks?” “Oh yeah! I heard this guy! People say that he’s really amazing! Here is his email”.

It’s hard for people who are not surrounded by musicians to get motivation and inspiration. Sure you can listen to any cd’s or watch any videos, but it is different from a real human interaction.

People who studies in music can find this task easy to do. But what about the law student? Engineer student? Father of kids? Who are surrounded by non-musicians everyday but they know they have a musician soul and they want to improve and have fun with their passion…

This is the question I’m asking. How can you do that? How can you develop a cool musician network to jam with any day, talk with them, take a coffee with them, share cd’s etc.

Being surrounded with musicians will improve your musical maturity and talent by 2000%.

Solo Bass Set – July 17th review

So I went onstage around 10:30 pm. The room was packed. Hip-Hopers, dj’s, parents, chicks, rockers, a pretty cool mixed crowd.

I got introduced by the animator and I went on stage. I started the night with Terminator II. So i hit my bass : po po PO POPO! I’m telling you, the speakers were so incredible that It seems that I was hitting a bass drum! All the crowd started to pay attention right away. I switch to Beat It right away. People recognized the tune so they went nuts. And then, out of nowhere POOF, I switch to Stampede At Night. A pretty cool solo bass introduction hehe. So I played the song, did some improv here and there, so sound experimentation etc. People loved it. I finished with Kingdom Improvisation with a fat percussion beat. Then I stopped.

The crowd was screaming.

Then, I wanted to do a funky improvisation. Just like that out of the blue. I started with the percussion, then the bass, then I did some guitar solos on top. It was 100% improv. People were feeling the funkiness.

Then it was time for Nascosto Sole. One of my favorite song to play live. After that song, I did some cool Motown solo bass covers like: My girl, I want You Back and then Stand By Me.

When I played Stand By me, Gr81 came onstage. He started to talk to the crowd and did a rapping freestyle on top of Stand By Me.

After we stopped and started to play 3 songs from our EP: Undefeated, Il Destino and Space Rider. People were REALLY felling our groove.

After, Gr81 pumped up the crowd and said: “So people, how many of you think that Marco Rodi can play faster?” People were screaming.

“How many of you think that Marco Rodi can play REALLLLLLLLYYYYY faster???” People were screaming like crazy.

“Ok Marco well, Show Them!”

And I went into this CRAZY slap fiesta. One of the fastest I ever did. Faster than this one and this one too.

People were screaming so loud that it pumped me up even more.

I switched my bass upside down to make them go crazy.

And After I finished with a soft, melodic cover of Every Breath You Take.

I got a standing ovation and people were screaming for an encore.

So the animator asked me If I wanted to. It was the first time I was asked to do an encore. It really wasent planned at ALL!! So I went on stage and improvised some funky stuff, played some lion king cover hehe.

I was done after and I got another standing ovation.

The show was incredible!

Many pictures and videos to come! It was captured by professionals!!!
